Templo of Debod

7 minute walk

Location: Calle Ferraz, Madrid. Within 7 minutes walking distance from the hotel

This Egyptian temple dates back to the 2nd Century BC. It was donated to Spain by the Egyptian government, then transported and rebuilt stone by stone. To rebuild it became a very hard task because, in adition to not having good maps, some of the stones where missing that is why the reconstruction of this temple took two years. It was finaly open to the public in july 1972 and is the favourite place for the Madrid citizens to enjoy the sunsets as it is facing west.

We recommend: Enjoy the Temple of Debod at sunset, the views of the mountains around Madrid and the Casa de Campo park are breathtaking.

Puerta del Sol, which means ‘the gate of the sun’, is the most emblematic square in Madrid. It is the centre of the radial network of Spanish roads (kilometre zero). In 1617 architect Juan Gómez de Mora was in charge of making the surrounding buildings more uniform in style.
